About Us
Bhanusudha Natya Puraskaram is a prestigious national platform dedicated to celebrating the timeless elegance of Indian classical dance and honoring the finest talents in this sacred art form. Instituted in 2025, this annual award was envisioned to recognize excellence, dedication, and innovation in the field of classical dance, including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, mohiniyattam and other revered traditions.
More than an award, it is a tribute to the rhythm, grace, and cultural legacy that these classical art forms carry — born from the harmony of laya (rhythm), bhava (expression), raga (melody), and natya (dramatic storytelling). Organized by Twenty Productions & Sune Sekhar Film Factory, the award serves as a beacon for both aspiring and accomplished dancers, providing a grand stage where tradition meets brilliance.
Through Bhanusudha Natya Puraskaram, we aim to:
- Honor exceptional artists in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam and other classical dance forms from across India
- Encourage the preservation and growth of this timeless art form
- Inspire new generations to embrace classical dance with dedication and passion
The event also features Kerala’s most respected classical dance competition, where India’s finest talents come together to showcase their artistry, technique, and deep devotion to the tradition. Dancers from multiple classical streams bring their spiritual alignment and technical finesse to the stage, adding layers of depth and diversity.
At Bhanusudha Natya Puraskaram, we believe that every step tells a story, every movement carries history, and every performance adds a new chapter to the legacy of Indian classical dance.
Legacy of BhanuSudha
In memory of a dancer lost in time, yet alive in rhythm…
In the grand corridors of the Chola empire, under the luminous reign of Raja Raja Chola, lived a temple dancer of unmatched grace — BhanuSudha. With a face radiant like the morning sun and movements that mesmerized even the gods, she was not just a dancer, but a living poem. Her life, though adorned with art, was shadowed by a tragic love. She fell in love with Veeramanyavalanjan, the much older and revered court playwright. He, enchanted by her dance, wrote his plays in rhythm with her footsteps. Their secret love, however, led to an unspoken shame when BhanuSudha became pregnant. Fearing dishonor, the wrath of society, and the ruin of their reputations, BhanuSudha chose silence. But Veeramanyavalanjan, torn between love and fear, ended her life — and with it, their unborn child’s. His remorse condemned him to prison until death, haunted by the melody of her anklets and the tragedy of his act.
BhanuSudha — a symbol of grace, love, and sacrifice — never found a voice in history. Today, we honor her name.
The Bhanusudha Natya Puraskaram
This award is not just a tribute to excellence in Indian classical dance. It is a resurrection of a forgotten soul. A whisper from history, reminding us that art outlives time, pain, and even death. Through every performance that wins this honor, BhanuSudha dances again.
